November 4, 2008 (a.k.a. Election Day)
I woke up at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday to the sound of pouring rain and fell fast asleep instantly.Officially waking up at 8:00 a.m. I suddenly remembered it was election day and I planned to surf Newport. My brain finally reacted to the rain and put 2 and 2 together; the surf was going to be shit. What I failed to realize at the time was the significant foreshadowing and meaning of the rain itself. From all my years of Honors and A.P. English you'd think I would have realized the underlying meaning of rain. Rain is popularly used in literature as a symbol of change and/or death. With that being said, from the second I woke up that Tuesday morning I should have known the outcome of the election.Nature alone revealed through the rain a certain change would take place and a certain death.I am a strong conservative and I hoped with all my heart that John Mccain would win but natural law prevailed. The voice of the people was strongly heard, and may i add STRONGLY(364 elect. votes to 173); and that is what the U.S.A. and democracy is all about. The rain did foreshadow the change that would occur as Barack Obama as the president elect. The rain also did foreshadow a death some may say, the death of Ronald Reagan Republicanism. While I may not agree with either, I do believe strongly in our nation and have hope in this dismal future.
